Giles Ruck
Giles is happiest running mountain trails or skiing off-piste in the sunshine. He loves working with groups of trail runners, welcoming them onto Alpine trails, which are his backyard, and encouraging their development and seeing them flourish. With a background in climbing mountaineering, Giles has guided expeditions in the Himalayas and South America and was fortunate to summit some chunky mountains, including Mount Everest. Having served his time in ‘high-altitude shuffling’, he much prefers traversing mountains of sensible altitudes, like the Alps: blue skies, jaw-dropping views, coffee and fruit tarts, beer and pizza in the valley by nightfall! And best of all, to share this with like-minded trail runners. He’s taken part in his fair share of mountain races, including most of the UTMB races, loving the crazy long PTL the most, and others, such as Lakeland 100, West Highland Way and UTS in the UK, North Face 50 in California, and the infamous Tor des Geants race in Italy, which is a mobile picnic on mountain trails blended with a social experiment in sleep deprivation.
Giles has gained his long service badge (not a thing) on the Tour du Mont Blanc, having run, hiked and guided the TMB more than 20 times. This qualifies him to know where to find the best coffee, blueberry tarts, and runnable trails!
