This exciting 7-day adventure in the stunning Italian Dolomites covers approximately 110 kilometres of trail, with varying levels of difficulty each day. The trip kicks off in Cortina d'Ampezzo, traversing some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the region. Accommodation ranges from hotels to charming mountain rifugios, providing a blend of comfort and rustic charm.

Itinerary 

• Day one: Arrival in the Charming Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

​Welcome to the breathtaking town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, your gateway to the Dolomites! Nestled in the heart of the Italian Alps, Cortina d’Ampezzo is renowned for its stunning mountain scenery, chic boutiques, and rich history as a former Olympic host. Upon your arrival in the afternoon, you’ll be greeted by our friendly guides who will introduce you to the wonders that await. After a thorough orientation, take the opportunity to settle into your hotel. Whether you choose to stretch your legs with a gentle run, or simply wander through the town’s quaint cafes, restaurants, and shops, the charm of Cortina will leave you eager for the adventures ahead. Dinner included.

• Day two:  A Spectacular Start on the Alta Via 1

Your first full day begins at the enchanting Lago di Braies, the gateway to the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d'Ampezzo. As you step onto the Alta Via 1 trail, prepare to be mesmerised by panoramic vistas of the majestic Sass de Putia and the towering Tofane pyramids. This day’s journey is filled with picturesque stops at mountain rifugios, perfect for capturing photos, savouring a delicious lunch, or indulging in a creamy cappuccino. As the sun sets, you’ll find yourself in a modernised mountain rifugio perched at 2,060 metres, where the crisp mountain air and starry skies offer a perfect ending to your first day of adventure. Expected time on trails: 5-8 hours. Breakfast and dinner included.

• Day three: Delving into the Cortina Dolomites 

Today, you’ll delve deeper into the heart of the Cortina Dolomites. Your journey begins with a climb up to the Passo di Limo, a breathtaking vantage point that offers a glimpse into the rugged beauty of the region. Along the trail, we’ll pause at a traditional malga, where you can enjoy a simple, hearty meal while taking in the serene surroundings. Your destination is a rifugio at 2,500 metres, boasting not only magnificent views but also the highest sauna in the Dolomites. This day’s slightly shorter distance allows you to relax, explore the surrounding area, or simply soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Expected time on trails: 5-8 hours. Breakfast and dinner included.

• Day four: Walking Through History in the Dolomiti 

Step back in time as today’s route leads you through an area steeped in World War One history. The highlight of the day is the awe-inspiring Cinque Torri, a collection of towering rock formations that serve as a natural monument to the heroism and hardships of the past. For those eager to delve deeper into history, an optional side route offers a chance to explore extensive tunnels carved through the mountain during the war. The day’s hike concludes at one of the more remote rifugios, where you’ll enjoy a peaceful night under a blanket of stars, far from the lights of civilisation. Expected time on trails: 5-8 hours. Breakfast and dinner included.

• Day five: Peaks, Passes, and Apple Strudel

The day starts early, with highlights including the Passo Giau and a stop at Rifugio Citta di Fiume for a well-deserved coffee. As you ascend to the stunning Passo Giau forcella, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views that stretch across the horizon. The long, gradual descent brings you to a higher-end rifugio, renowned not only for its excellent meals and indulgent apple strudel but also for its spa facilities and stunning sunset views over Pelmo. This is a day to savour the unique blend of natural beauty and Alpine hospitality. Expected time on trails: 5-8 hours. Breakfast and dinner included.

• Day six: Grand Finale

Your final full day on the trail promises to be unforgettable as you encounter one of the most impressive faces in the Dolomites, Monte Civetta. The trail begins with high alpine vistas that will take your breath away before gradually descending through serene forested areas. By the afternoon, you’ll have conquered most of the elevation changes, allowing you to enjoy moderate running on the approach to your last rifugio. The sense of accomplishment and the stunning surroundings make this the perfect conclusion to your journey through the Dolomites. Expected time on trails: 5-8 hours. Breakfast and dinner included.

• Day seven: Farewell to the Dolomites – Return to Venice

On your last morning, rise early to savour one final mountain breakfast before descending to the charming town of Agordo. Here, your adventure in the Dolomites comes to a close, but not before one last scenic drive back to Venice. Arriving by evening, you’ll have time to reflect on the incredible memories made, the stunning landscapes explored, and the new friends met along the way. As you say your goodbyes in Venice, you’ll carry with you the unforgettable experiences of a journey through one of the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges. Expected time on trails: 1-2 hours. Breakfast  included.

Travel & Logistics

Arrival: Saturday in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Meet & greet will be in the hotel lobby at 6pm.

Departure: Saturday, after 6pm

The main airport for your Dolomites adventure is Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), Italy. Flights to Venice are frequent and can be booked from several UK and international airports with airlines that include British Airways, EasyJet, and Ryanair.

Transfers to/from Venice Marco Polo Airport to/from our hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo are included. Simply let us know your arrival details, and we'll take care of the rest, ensuring a smooth and scenic journey to the heart of the Dolomites.
